I have lost 31 pounds in the last six months. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year ago, and I was eating an amazing 5500 calories a day. I have learned to cope with the pangs that go with losing weight, by the following:
1. Carrots. The glycemic index is relitively high, but you can eat about a half a carrot lightly boiled with your dinner, and it sticks with you. It would take a lot of carrots to make you gain weight. Carrots are a god send for me...Careful, not to much though...They will turn you orange!
2. Sunflower seeds. Eating sunflower seeds in the shell tricks me into thinking I am eating a sizable snack, due to the time it takes to eat a quarter cup. I frequently go over that amount, but I have had no weight gain or obvious rises in my Blood gloucose as a result. The are good for you, and keeping busy cracking them open is a great distraction from the thought of HGI foods. Unsalted is better for you, but I crack the shells with my front teeth, then open with my hands..Helps to cut down the sodium.
